If you follow any of my recipes or posts on instagram, you will know – I am a big coconut oil lover. From blending coconut oil into my coffee, to sautéing my vegetables, hair masks and more – I use this nutrient rich fat regularly for its superfood effects.
WHY USE COCONUT OIL?
1. IT HAS A HIGH SMOKE POINT
Coconut oil has a high smoke point making it the perfect oil to use at high temperatures when cooking stir-fry’s, roasted veggies and curries and even for baking.
2. IT CAN BE BENEFICIAL FOR WEIGHT LOSS
Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides that have been shown to be used for energy and are effective at slightly improving your metabolic rate. Coconut oil can also help you to feel fuller longer.
3. IT CAN BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
Approximately half of the fatty acids in coconut oil are lauric acid – which are effective at killing off bacteria, viruses and fungi. This can help to ward off the common cold and flu during the winter months.
4. IT IMPROVES THE LOOK OF DRY HAIR & SKIN
Applying coconut oil to dampened hair and leaving it for 30 minutes can help to reduce frizz and restore the look of dry and dull hair. Coconut oil can also be applied topically to skin for a deep moisturizing effect in the winter months.
5. IT IS RICH IN ANTIOXIDANTS
Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants that have been helpful in reducing the inflammatory response. This can be beneficial in topical use for aches, pains and for arthritic conditions.
